These exceptional opportunities will provide motivated candidates with outstanding real-world experience in a variety of exciting disciplines. Interns will work side-by-side with an experienced group of dedicated professionals in a fast-paced, dynamic and fun setting which celebrates the achievement of excellence in the performing arts and in life.
Dates: Summer session positions are from May to mid August 2010 (start and end dates for both sessions are flexible based on schedule).
Location: Internships are based at the Drum Corps International corporate headquarters in downtown Indianapolis, Ind.
Requirements: Minimum one year of college coursework or related experience, or as otherwise noted on individual positions.
Hours: Summer session internships are full-time (8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday) and may include substantial weekend hours while traveling to and working at DCI events and the World Championships.
Supervision: Interns will report to assigned supervisors who are a part of the Drum Corps International professional staff. Interns will have the opportunity to interact with and be mentored by senior-level staff members. Periodic evaluations of intern performance will be made by their supervisors in addition to an exit interview which is conducted at the end of the specified internship period.
Compensation: Internships offer tremendous experience in a variety of areas of interest to prospective candidates. Summer interns will receive an expense per-diem of $150 weekly. Depending on the position, interns may have the opportunity to travel and be involved extensively with off-site Drum Corps International events and the annual World Championships, during which travel and related expenses will be covered.

Event Operations Intern
Assists the Drum Corps International event operations team with details relating to the production of DCI's Premier Event series and the week-long Drum Corps International World Championships. Ideal candidate will have a background and interest in the event management and/or hospitality industry. Intern will assist professional staff in event-related tasks, both in the office – including the ordering and scheduling of event-related items and services, and organization of logistics – and on-site, including event operations and volunteer management. Applicant must be a self-motivated, self-starter that is able to handle stressful situations while on-site and meet deadlines on a daily basis. Intern will have an outstanding opportunity to gain substantial, world-class event management experience.
Graphic Design Intern
Assists in the creation and preparation of print collateral materials including: advertisements, brochures, signage and point of purchase merchandising displays, in addition to Web-related graphics. Intern should have experience with graphic layout programs (QuarkXPress/Adobe InDesign) in addition to Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. Photography skills are a plus. Intern will have an outstanding opportunity to hone real-world graphic design skills in a fast-paced environment and to add significant weight to his/her portfolio of published material.
Journalism Intern
Develops ongoing journalistic content for the official Drum Corps International Web site (DCI.org) and various print publications, relating to events, participating drum corps units and their members, and other topics as assigned. Intern will have the opportunity to interview and report on high-profile people and events within the Drum Corps International realm while working under strict deadlines. Ideal candidates should have strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as an interest and background in copy editing, photography and layout experience in print and Web publishing. Intern will have an outstanding opportunity to hone real-world journalistic skills and to add significant weight to his/her clippings file and portfolio of published material.
Photography Intern
Acts as a photojournalist at and around Drum Corps International competitive events and other functions as assigned, including some studio work shooting merchandise products. Intern will have full media credentials and have the opportunity to work with Drum Corps International professional staff photographers. This intern will be responsible for cataloguing all images captured throughout the summer. Candidate should have a keen eye for sports-related photography and strong skills with digital SLR cameras and editing in Adobe Photoshop. Intern will be asked to produce photo galleries and audio/visual content for the high-traffic Drum Corps International Web site (DCI.org) and other print and digital media. Intern will have an outstanding opportunity to hone real-world photo journalistic skills and add significant weight to his/her portfolio of published material.
Public Relations Intern
Researches and responds to media inquiries and provides writing support for public and media relations outreach. Provides support to the marketing communications department, including assisting promotions and events teams on an as-needed basis. Intern will assist with the compilation of daily news clipping searches, serve in a supporting role in response to media inquiries, and will provide assistance to public and media relations staff on specific events including Drum Corps International Premier Events and the World Championships. In addition, the intern in this position will contribute to news posted on the high-volume DCI.org Web site, and in other writing projects on an as-needed basis. Intern will have an outstanding opportunity to hone real-world public relations skills and to add significant weight to his/her clippings file and portfolio of published material.
Video Production Intern
Creates and executes high-end video productions including digital effects, motion graphics and editing for Drum Corps International Internet marketing communications. Intern will be involved with creative and pre-production, lighting, editing, as well as some aspects of coordination, planning and executing video shoots. Ideal candidate will have experience with Final Cut Pro or other non-linear editing software and will work in conjunction with other video shooters and producers while providing journalistic coverage of competitive events. Intern will have an outstanding opportunity to hone real-world video production skills and add significant weight to his/her portfolio reel.
Ticketing Operations and Sales Intern
Intern will have the opportunity to develop skills related to event ticket sales, box office management and related operational procedures. Applicants should be self-motivated to meet deadlines on a daily basis while interacting extensively with customers and audience members. Hands on experiences will center on assisting ticketing and merchandise staff members with setting up and closing box offices, preparing bank deposits, communicating with contracted event liaisons, processing phone orders, providing customer service, printing and distributing tickets, promoting merchandise and ticket sales, and other related operational tasks.
Merchandise Intern
Merchandise Intern
will have the opportunity to develop skills related to the planning and development of on-site merchandise sales, online store management, promotions, inventory management and related operational procedures. Applicants should be self-motivated to meet deadlines on a daily basis while interacting extensively with customers and audience members. Hands on experiences will center on merchandise sales, assisting merchandise staff members with setting up and closing of the on-site store, communicating with merchandise summer staff, providing customer service, promoting merchandise and ticket sales, and other related operational tasks.
Information Technology Intern
Assists Drum Corps International’s IT and Web development teams utilizing a variety of technologies from credit card machines to backend video platforms, e-mail to SQL, online media to offline data management, and more. Intern will have the opportunity to hone troubleshooting skills while problem-solving and creating more efficient ways of conducting business. Candidates should be familiar with Windows and Mac operating systems, possess strong technical abilities, be able to work in changing fast-paced environments, and have a positive attitude. Intern will gain an understanding of how to run media platforms and maintain the needs of an internal IT department. Media experience, including online video and audio is not required, but recommended.

Ideal candidate will have a background and interest in the event management and/or hospitality industry and be self-motivated to successfully manage multiple projects with strict deadlines. Intern will have the opportunity to gain substantial, world-class event planning experience, with the option to work at the DCI World Championships in August.
Marketing and Communications Intern
Intern will have the opportunity to hone real-world marketing skills across multiple disciplines including public relations, advertising, journalism, and graphic design. Applicants should be energetic individuals who take initiative, pay great attention to detail, enjoy a sense of humor, and are not afraid to ask for direction while handling several assignments at one time. Intern should be enrolled in a course of study or program related to communications or marketing with career aspirations of working in those fields. Responsibilities may include assisting with copy writing and design of print and Web projects, researching and responding to media inquiries, compiling news clippings, and working with computer design software and other multimedia. Fundamental photography and/or video editing skills are a plus.

Drum Corps International, Inc.
